A Hard New Standard in Korea

It feels ever so eerily like a chapter of "1984" when you read about a body called the International Organisation for Standardisation. But then you read on to discover its actually a good thing rather than Big Brother taking over our world. Next week, this organization will be bringing together experts from 50 countries to meet in South Korea to discuss standardisation of condoms.

Relax, its much better than it sounds. They aren't about to create one uniform condom, the Hyundai of latex, as it were, destined to take over the world, genitals first.

Korean condoms

They are aiming to set size and quality standards by which condoms can be compared and measured. That means we'll all feel happier to condomize with less familiar brands and styles, without worrying about their safety.

And why South Korea of all places? It turns out that they produce about 30% of all the condoms produced around the world. And the reason for their success (said in not so many words by a spokesperson of the Korean Commerce Ministry), is that the standardization of Korean condoms means not only is the quality improving, but that the sizes are being adapted to Western norms.

So heads up for the little nation that dressing the world's penises.
